MEMBER OF PRESIDENCY BIH BEĆIROVIĆ – AT SESSION TO CONSIDER PROPOSAL FOR ADOPTION OF ACTION PLAN FOR MEMBERSHIP IN EU

SARAJEVO, MARCH 27 (ONASA) – Member of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, suggested that at the session of the BiH Presidency, the Proposal of Conclusions for the adoption of an action plan to fulfill 14 key priorities from the Opinion of the European Commission on the Request of Bosnia and Herzegovina for membership in the European Union should be considered.
This proposal sends a clear message that the declarative consensus for European integration must be turned into a working consensus for EU membership. With concrete measures and deadlines for fulfilling the conditions, the institutions of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina will undertake to implement the obligations established by the action plan, in accordance with the priorities from the Opinion of the European Commission.
By signing the Stabilization and Association Agreement with the EU, Bosnia and Herzegovina committed itself to the gradual harmonization of legislation with the EU acquis as well as its consistent application.
The European Council’s decision of December 15, 2022 on the granting of candidate status to Bosnia and Herzegovina is a strong incentive.
At the same time, this decision is also an obligation for the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina and lower levels of government to rapidly continue the reform processes that will enable the opening of negotiations for EU membership and have a favorable effect on the economic, social, political, security, cultural and other aspects of the life of the citizens of Bosnia. and Herzegovina.
By creating and adopting an action plan to fulfill 14 priorities from the Opinion of the European Commission on the Request of Bosnia and Herzegovina for EU membership, the prerequisites for faster progress in the process of integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina into the EU would be ensured.
Denis Bećirović, a member of the BiH Presidency, discussed the proposal for the adoption of the action plan with the head of the EU Delegation and the EU’s special representative in BiH, Ambassador Johan Sattler, who also supported this proposal.
