MALAYSIAN AMBASSADOR TO BIH VISITS ONASA

 

SARAJEVO, Nov 10 (ONASA) – Onasa news agency general director Elvira Begovic met today in the company’s seat in Sarajevo with Malaysian Ambassador to BiH Zulkifli Adnan on possibilities to set up cooperation with state-owned news agency BERNAMA from Malaysia.
During the talks, the Onasa general director informed her guest on the operations of the agency, which has become recognizable in BiH and wider by tis professional work and objectivity.
The Malaysian Ambassador said he was impressed with the organization of Onasa, expressing interest for news related to political and economic situation in BiH, world financial crises and the possibility of using the agency’s archive.
The Ambassador thanked for the reception and voiced to make efforts to establish cooperation between Onasa and BERNAMA.
He also noted the possibility of cooperation through the Malaysian International Visitor Program, where Onasa journalists would have an opportunity to discuss with Malaysian politicians and be informed on work of local media.
The Onasa general director said that departure of Onasa journalists to a visit to Malaysia would be of huge benefit for work and further progress of the agency.
Ambassador Zulkifli Adnan. who took the duty in January 2008, stressed that last week a delegation of Malaysian Kebangsaan University was in BiH to sign a memorandum on understanding with Sarajevo University.
He announced that similar agreements will soon be signed with Tuzla and Mostar universities.
The Malaysian National News Agency or BERNAMA, a statutory body, was set up by an Act of Parliament in 1967 and began operations in May 1968.
The agency has its offices in all the states in Malaysia and correspondents in Singapore and Jakarta and stringers or retainers in Washington, London, Manila, New Delhi, Dhaka, Melbourne and Vancouver.

Previously BERNAMA’s news and information were only in the form of text and still photographs but with the launching of its audio-visual unit known as BERNAMA TV in September 1998, news is now available in the form of visuals.
BERNAMA has over 300 journalists, editors, photojournalists and video cameramen. (the end)
