COALITION UNDER SCRUTINY: WITHOUT ELECTRONIC IDENTIFICATION OF VOTERS AND SCANNERS OF BALLOT PAPERS, ELECTORAL REFORM MAKES NO SENSE

SARAJEVO, JANUARY 22 (ONASA) – In light of the announced changes to the BiH Election Law, the Under Scrutiny Coalition issued a press release in which they once again emphasize the importance of the introduction of new technologies and the reform of polling boards in elections in BiH.
The Under Scrutiny Coalition states that the priority of the electoral reform must be the prevention of proven, but unfortunately not adequately sanctioned, electoral theft and fraud.
The best way to do this is to introduce new technologies into the election process – specifically, electronic voter identification, ballot scanners and entry of voting results from the polling station level.
They note that at the beginning of 2022, almost 100,000 citizens of BiH signed a petition for the introduction of electronic voter identification and ballot scanners in elections in BiH.
In addition, it is necessary to urgently change the method of electing members of electoral committees – to introduce a non-partisan president and deputy, and to narrow the possibility of nominating the remaining members of electoral committees to parliamentary political entities.
The aforementioned improvements prevent double voting, voting in the name of the dead or those who did not turn out for the elections, abuse of unused ballots, vote counting and cancellation of votes for political opponents, as well as other types of election theft and fraud committed by party people in the election administration.
The Under Scrutiny Coalition calls on the political parties that make up the state government not to betray the trust and expectations of citizens, and to seriously improve the electoral process in accordance with the priorities and recommendations of relevant institutions, organizations and independent election observers.
