KONAKOVIĆ – SZIJJARTO: HUNGARY WANTS TO SPEED UP EU ENLARGEMENT PROCESS

SARAJEVO, MARCH 22 (ONASA) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, met today in Sarajevo with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, Peter Szijjart, with whom he discussed relations between the two countries and cooperation, which was assessed as very good.
After the meeting, Konaković told journalists that Hungary is a country with which we have no open questions or any major problems, with which the volume of our trade exchange is growing and with which some new opportunities for trade exchange are additionally opening and strengthening.
“We want to use the opportunity,” he added, “to make it a focus in each of our conversations.”
– I want to thank my colleague and Hungary, who supported BiH’s candidate status, and who are also great advocates of EU enlargement. They are one of the countries that understand this because they recently went through a similar process and understand how much the EU’s attitude, which should be positive towards enlargement, means to us – said Minister Konaković.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto, said that Hungary is promoting, that is, it wants to speed up the EU enlargement process.
– But you also know very well that there are member states in the EU that only verbally support the enlargement of the EU, and when it comes to decisions, they are very reserved. That is why we call on the member states to stop preventing and limiting the process of EU enlargement – said Szijjarto.
He added that he expects Brussels to make certain decisions in the future in the field of the accession process of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
