MINISTRY OF DEFENSE OF BIH ANNOUNCES COMPETITIONS FOR ADMISSION TO ARMED FORCES OF BIH



SARAJEVO, JANUARY 30 (ONASA) – The Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina will soon announce competitions for admission to various military positions in the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and young men and women between the ages of 18 and 27, interested in a military career, are invited to follow the official web- website of the Ministry of BiH – www.mod.gov.ba.
On the official website of the Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, all conditions of application and admission to the professional military service of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina are published.
It can be expected that competitions for admission to military duties of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in various specialties, will be published on the official website from mid-February to mid-March 2023.
Candidates who successfully pass the tests and medical examination are sent to basic military training for three months, after which they are admitted to professional military service in the initial rank of soldier.
Young men and women who have graduated from the civilian faculty, and are interested in professional military service in the category of officers of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, can also apply to the competition for admission to officers under the domestic education program in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This competition will be published from the second half of August, also on the official website of the Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina – www.mod.gov.ba.
Candidates who successfully pass all stages of testing and medical examinations are sent to basic officer training for one year, after which they are admitted to professional military service in the initial officer rank of second lieutenant.
And this year, the Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina is announcing a series of public competitions for training cadets at military academies in partner countries, for young men and women interested in professional military service in the officer category, at different times from February to June.
This is an excellent opportunity for all young people, citizens of BiH, who are graduating this year or have already graduated from a four-year high school, to get the opportunity for free and scholarship-based education in one of the 10 countries where cadets from Bosnia and Herzegovina are educated, after which as young officers of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina have a guaranteed job and the opportunity for their own professional development in various specialties, in an extremely dynamic and challenging environment.
The Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina educates cadets at prestigious foreign military academies in the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Austria, Italy, Greece and Turkey, as well as at military academies of countries from the region: Serbia, Croatia and North Macedonia.
In order to apply for this type of education abroad, candidates are required to have achieved at least very good success during their four-year schooling, to have achieved a very good average grade in mathematics in the last two years of schooling, to know how to work on a computer, to have an intermediate level of knowledge of English language and good physical preparation.
Interested candidates attending the fourth grade of high school can also apply for the competition, but upon completion, they must have at least the same grade point average in all subjects as in the certificate from the semester of the fourth grade that they submitted in the application documents for the public competition.
In addition to these conditions, which are the same for all military academies, to apply to military academies in Germany and Austria, candidates must have a basic level of knowledge of the German language – A2, which is determined by testing. Applicants to the Teresian Military Academy in Austria must also be able to swim 300 meters freestyle.
To apply to military academies in the USA and Great Britain, candidates must have a higher level of knowledge of the English language, i.e. a minimum of 80 points on the ALCPT test, in order to be able to successfully attend classes in English.
Education at military academies is very diverse in its content, so that all young people have the opportunity to find something for themselves.
When it comes to education in the Republic of Croatia, two study programs are available, both lasting four years: Military Engineering and Military Leadership and Management.
The Military Academy in the Republic of Serbia offers the following study programs: “Military Aviation”, lasting five years, “Management in Defense”, lasting four years, “Defense Logistics”, lasting four years, “Military Mechanical Engineering”, lasting four years, “Anti-aircraft defense – module of the Artillery-missile unit for anti-aircraft operations”, lasting four years and “Medicine” at the Military Medical Academy, lasting six years.
In the Republic of North Macedonia, education lasts four years and the military academy offers several courses, which are mainly related to the branches and services of the land army.
In the Republic of Turkey, it is possible to train cadets at three military academies: the Army Academy, the Aviation Military Academy and the Military Medical Academy. At the aviation and land army academies, education lasts four years, and at the military-medical academies six years, with the fact that cadets from Bosnia and Herzegovina learn the Turkish language for one school year before starting regular education.
Military academies in Turkey offer a large selection of study programs, but the condition is that during high school, candidates have taken the subject of mathematics for at least two years, and the subjects of physics and chemistry for at least one year.
In the Republic of Greece, there is also the possibility of training our cadets at three military academies: the Army Academy, the Aviation Military Academy and the Academy for officers in the services.
Education at these academies in Greece lasts four years each, except for certain study programs at the academy for officers in the services, which last five years. Cadets from Bosnia and Herzegovina, before starting regular schooling, learn the Greek language at these academies for one school year.
At the military academy in the Federal Republic of Germany, education lasts three years, but cadets from Bosnia and Herzegovina study German for one school year beforehand.
Also, in the Republic of Austria, at the Teresian Military Academy, cadets learn the German language beforehand, with the education lasting four years.
In the Republic of Italy, education lasts from three to four years, depending on the study program, with the fact that cadets from Bosnia and Herzegovina learn the Italian language from May until the beginning of the school year at the military academy, with a note that during the first year at the military academy, cadets from Bosnia and Herzegovina have a mentor who helps them reach academic standards, so that they can later continue their education independently.
For United States military academies, the opportunity to train one cadet per year is usually granted.
In addition to the previously mentioned requirements, candidates must pass the English language test TOEFL and the general knowledge test – SAT, which all American high school students take, as a condition for admission to the university. Schooling at the Air Force Academy, as well as at the West Point Military Academy, lasts four years.
A high level of knowledge of the English language is required, and cadets from Bosnia and Herzegovina do not have the opportunity to learn English before starting school.
“Our offer for free scholarship education is not limited only to high school students. For young people who have completed the first cycle of studies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, there is an opportunity to study at the prestigious military academies ‘Sandhurst’ (Army) and ‘Cranwell’ (Air Force) in Great Britain. high knowledge of the English language and a high level of physical preparation, potential candidates cannot be older than 25. Schooling at the ‘Sandhurst’ academy lasts 13 months, while schooling at the ‘Cranwell’ academy lasts up to nine months,” the statement of the BiH Ministry of Defense states.
In the selection process for all military academies abroad, all cadet candidates are tested for general knowledge, physical fitness, psycho-test, English language test (and German if necessary), as well as an interview. The most successful candidates are referred for a medical examination at the clinic, the costs of which are fully borne by the Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina. After a successful medical examination, the Contract on Education is signed with the selected candidates, which specifies the rights and obligations of both the cadet and the Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
To all cadets from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina provides free education, accommodation and food during their education, and cadets are also entitled to a scholarship in the amount of 25% of the starting salary of an officer of the rank of second lieutenant and two return tickets during the year (during the semester vacation ). At the same time, the cadets undertake to spend twice the duration of their education in the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina believes that this is an opportunity that all young people should seriously think about, especially those who want to do a challenging and dynamic job, with real opportunities for stable professional development and career building.
Competitions for non-commissioned officers are of an internal type and are open as an opportunity to those who are already part of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina in one of the ranks of soldiers.
