FUP: WARNING TO CITIZENS ABOUT FREQUENT ‘PHISHING’ FRAUD VIA INTERNET

SARAJEVO, OCTOBER 31 (ONASA) – The Federal Police Administration warns citizens about the increasingly common form of so-called “phishing” campaigns aimed at the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

It is about the preparatory actions undertaken by the unknown perpetrators in order to commit the criminal offense of “Fraud”.

Lately, fake messages have been sent to a large number of e-mail addresses of different recipients in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in which an unknown person/persons present themselves as an official of investigative bodies of neighboring countries.

One of the examples is that a public figure or persons present themselves as the managers of the organizational unit of the Criminal Police Directorate of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Croatia, and in the same message states that the recipient of the message is suspected of several different criminal offenses and asks the recipient to respond to the message, and all with the aim of establishing contacts, and in order to mislead the recipient of the message by taking further actions, so that he undertakes certain activities to the detriment of his property, and to the benefit of the mentioned NN person/persons.

The federal administration indicates the need to increase the level of information security of Internet users in Bosnia and Herzegovina and to raise awareness of current trends when it comes to computer crime.
