KS: DECISION MADE ON TERMS AND METHODS OF SALE OF WOOD FOREST ASSORTMENTS AND NON-WOOD FOREST PRODUCTS

SARAJEVO, AUGUST 22 (ONASA) – The Ministry of Economy of Sarajevo Canton has prepared, and the Government of Sarajevo Canton has adopted a Decision on the conditions and methods of sale of wood forest assortments and non-wood forest products, including medicinal plants and protected rare species of plants.
Passing the Decision is one of the obligations of the Ministry within the framework of the implementation of the newly adopted Law on Forests of KS.
The implementation of this decision will enable the protection of domestic wood processors, as well as giving preference when purchasing wood assortments to all wood processors from the area of our canton compared to those coming from other parts of the country.
“In this way, we will provide our wood processors with easier access to raw materials, which will lead to an increase in production and business activity, thereby solving a long-standing problem that prevented wood processors from the area of Sarajevo Canton from accessing the necessary raw materials for smooth production,” said Minister of Economy Adnan Delić.
This Decision also establishes a sales system that excludes illegal activities and individual decision-making in the selection of buyers and price determination, as well as the distribution of quantities by buyers, which will enable everyone to have an equal initial chance to purchase wood forest assortments.
As Minister Delić said, the implementation of the Decision will prevent the realization of “extra-profit” by one or more buyers based on favoritism or privileges, the provision of firewood to the local population, and the separation of administrative from economic functions with the aim of the highest possible implementation of the Law on Forests.
One of the priority goals is the prevention of illegal activities in the area of sale of wood assortments and non-wood forest products.
“By passing this Decision, we are trying to bring order to the area of utilization of one of the most valuable natural resources that the Canton has, by raising the level of protection of biodiversity and the overall ecosystem of the forest, as well as raising the level of protection of businessmen from the wood industry who operate in KS”, explained the minister.
In addition to the segment of sale of wood assortments, the application of this decision introduces for the first time into the system the obligation to sell non-timber forest products, as well as the method of their collection from forests, i.e. placing under supervision the harvesting of medicinal plants, especially strictly protected plant species that are not taken into account and which are uncontrollably eradicated.
We remind you that the Ministry previously announced the Decision and allowed the public and wood processors to make their own proposals before the official adoption by the Government.
The decision was published on the website of the Ministry of Economy at the link https://mp.ks.gov.ba/aktuelno/obavjestenja/odluka-o-prodaji-sumskih-sortimenata, the KS Press Service announced.
