EU REACTED TO CONTROVERSIAL LAWS IN NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF RS: ANYTHING CONTRARY TO OUR PRINCIPLES LEADS TO SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES

BRUSSELS, APRIL 18 (ONASA) – European Union spokesperson for foreign and security policy Peter Stano reacted to the latest activities and announcements coming from the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska, specifically about the latest legislative initiatives in the RS.
As Stano states in his official announcement, the NSRS is discussing the adoption of legislative initiatives that would violate the country’s constitutional order, the functionality of its institutions and basic freedoms, and would be against Bosnia and Herzegovina’s obligations on the way to the EU.
“We expect the entity leadership to suspend these legislative initiatives, including, above all, draft laws of the Republika Srpska on elections, referendums, immunity and so-called ‘foreign agents,'” says Stano.
The European Union emphasizes the obligation to respect sovereignty, territorial integrity, the constitutional order, including the decisions of the Constitutional Court, as well as the international subjectivity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Stano emphasizes that any actions against these principles lead to serious consequences, as the European Union has already undoubtedly emphasized.
“Following last month’s decision of the European Council on the opening of accession negotiations, the European Union expects Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the RS entity, to take steps forward instead of taking actions that contradict its European path. The European Council’s decision showed that dialogue, not “escalation brings results. We call on all leaders in Bosnia and Herzegovina to fulfill their obligations and citizens’ expectations and to return to the negotiating table for the benefit of the people of the country and its future in the European Union,” concludes Stano in a statement.
