BIH RECEIVES APPROVAL FOR OPENING NEGOTIATIONS WITH EU

BRUSSELS, MARCH 22 (ONASA) – Today in Brussels, the leaders of the member states of the European Union gave the “green light” to Bosnia and Herzegovina to open negotiations on accession to the European Union.
This decision was made based on the recommendation of the European Commission (EC).
We remind you that last week the European Commission published a report in which it concluded that BiH sufficiently meets the conditions for the start of the long road to EU membership.
At a meeting in December 2023, EU leaders approved the opening of accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova, after these countries took the important steps outlined in the EC enlargement report of 8 November 2023. At the time, they also expressed readiness to open accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina when the criteria for membership are met to the extent necessary.
Bosnia and Herzegovina applied for EU membership in February 2016, and was granted candidate status in December 2022
