EU LEADERS MEET IN BRUSSELS, BIH ARE AWAITING GREEN LIGHT

BRUSSELS, MARCH 21 (ONASA) – At the summit in Brussels today, EU leaders will decide to open negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina and ask the Council to draw up a negotiation framework so that these negotiations can be opened.
This is stated in the draft conclusions that the European Council will adopt at the summit today and tomorrow.
– Following the recommendations of the Commission from March 12, 2024, the European Council decides to open accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Council is invited to adopt the negotiation framework when the relevant steps determined in the recommendations of the commission from October 12, 2022 have been taken – the draft reads.
Putting this sentence in the draft is the result of the agreement of the member states at the meetings for the preparation of the European Council.
We hope that the recommendation of the European Commission will be respected and that we will essentially be the champions of the European integration of the region, because we have gone from obtaining candidate status to the opening of negotiations in the shortest possible time, says BiH Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmedin Konaković.
If there is a green light, that, he emphasizes, is the official start of BiH negotiations and the screening will start immediately.
– If this happens, it will be a great success and a reason for celebration in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Everything that the EU asks of us before defining the negotiation framework is definitely asked of us.
There will be no additional conditions.
On the table will be arranged only the dynamics of the conditions that will decide the speed of convergence with the EU. There is no reason for skepticism in this case, because everything that follows is a technical matter, Minister Konaković concludes.
