WORK BEGAN ON CONSTRUCTION OF MUSEUM OF SUFFERING IN VOGOŠĆA




SARAJEVO, MARCH 13 (ONASA) – As of March 13, 2024, work began on the area of “Kon-Tiki”, the former infamous Sonja camp in Vogošća.
The project of arrangement and adaptation of this space is listed as one of the sub-projects of the mapping of the siege of Sarajevo in 1992-1995 by the Decision of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly from 2006.
At the end of 2022, the Ministry of Veteran Affairs and the Government of Sarajevo Canton purchased the land and accompanying facilities.
In February 2023, the handover took place and the premises and facilities were given to the Sarajevo Canton Memorial Fund, now the Sarajevo Memorial Center (MCS).
The works will be performed by the company Centar Han Ltd. Sarajevo, Eko Teh Ltd. Sarajevo and Kolinvest Ltd. Sarajevo. This beginning of work represents an important step in the restoration of this historical site, according to the press release of the Sarajevo Memorial Center.
The beginning of the works was attended by the Minister of Veterans’ Affairs of KS Omer Osmanović, the Mayor of Vogošća Municipality Migdad Hasanović, as well as the director of the Sarajevo Memorial Center Ahmed Kulanić and the director of the Institute for Construction of Sarajevo Canton Belma Barlov.
Minister Osmanović expressed the hope that this way of caring for the culture of memory will lead to numerous indictments against people who committed atrocities and pointed out that his generation created the miracle of Bosnian survival, and that it is up to new generations to build the miracle of Bosnian survival.
Chief Hasanović took the opportunity to greet those present Ahmed Hido and Eset Muračević, people who went through the criminal camps, saying that he is glad that such a project is being launched while there are still living witnesses of the crimes committed in the camps.
The Director of the Kulanić Memorial Center announced that this will be a Museum of Suffering in which atrocities committed in all camps in Bosnia and Herzegovina will be documented. (end)
