BRČKO, FEBRUARY 24 (ONASA) – Speaking about the referendum on the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Džaferović said that all BiH politicians were responsible for that event, but that the leading force was the SDA and the late president Alija Izetbegović.
“The independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina is as clear as a tear. The decision was made on the basis of the Constitution of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Constitution of the then state and international law. No serious person can object to that. One could have guessed what would follow, but our decision on the independence of our homeland was a decision on our freedom,” said Džaferović, the SDA announced.
He added that it is difficult to find a country where such decisions were made with such great support from citizens.
“BiH was immediately recognized by the USA and the EU. On May 22, 1992, BiH became a subject of international law. After five centuries, it became autonomous and independent. It is an epoch-making achievement. The generation led by the late President Alija Izetbegović is responsible for that,” said Džaferović.
The decision on independence, he said, is set in stone and no one, except the Supreme Creator, can ever change it.
“Thank you to all the defenders of Bosnia and Herzegovina. If it weren’t for them, Bosnia and Herzegovina would not have been defended,” said Džaferović.
For the Government of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, he pointed out that it was the only legal government in BiH during the aggression, which, along with the magnificent defense, saved the country.
“When you look at the Dayton Peace Agreement, its first provision is the continuity of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Džaferović.
As he added, numerous institutions were built in BiH after Dayton and the country was put on the road to NATO and the EU, and the leading force in that process was the SDA.
“We built Bosnia and Herzegovina and we will continue to build it. Today we face brutal attacks on sovereignty and serious threats to the territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. But those who try to do this will never succeed. Much bigger players tried to do this, and ended up in The Hague. Bosnia and Herzegovina is a boulder, and they are just a pebble hitting it,” said the member of the SDA Presidency.
Speaking about the current political moment, Džaferović said that he would like to see more unity among the leading pro-Bosnian political forces. In this context, he recalled the SDA’s calls for the formation of a strong pro-Bosnian political bloc.
“As a strong bloc, we would be able to successfully deal with all threats and strikes. The Troika will not and did not want to agree to that. What have they achieved now? From us as a proud nation, and by that I mean all the people who love BiH, made are political change. They brought us to a situation where, for the first time, it happened that a pro-Bosnian force participated in an agreement, accepted that agreement, and that foreign embassies prevented them from doing so. And they represent us like that. After 2026, they will never to represent,” said Džaferović.
BiH, he added, will be an organized multi-ethnic state in which every citizen will be equal, and the state will be a member of the EU and NATO.
Answering the questions of those present, Džaferović pointed to the current complete standstill on the NATO road to Bosnia and Herzegovina, considering that the current government still has not adopted the Reform Program for last year.
Speaking about the Law on Prevention of Conflicts of Interest in BiH Institutions, which is a condition for opening negotiations and which was referred to the procedure by the SDA, Džaferović recalled the fact that the existing law was adopted by the SDP in 2013 with its then coalition partners, changing the previous law which was much more rigorous and aligned with European standards.
“Out of their party interest, ignoring the interests of the state, they overturned that law and now we are in a problem because of that. I don’t know how it will end. We see that the ruling parties cannot agree on this and the SDA, through its club in the House of Representatives, submitted a proposal that was prepared by Transparency International. We will see how the House of Representatives will react, how it will vote, but the SDA has done its job,” said Džaferović. (end)
