BIH RECORDED NEW GROWTH IN NUMBER OF TOURISTS IN DECEMBER



SARAJEVO, FEBRUARY 12 (ONASA) – In Bosnia and Herzegovina in December 2023, tourists made 111,240 visits, which is 5.5 percent more compared to November 2023 and 8.1 percent more compared to December 2022. year, the data are from the BiH Agency for Statistics.
Tourists spent 213,936 overnight stays in BiH in December, which is 2.9 percent more than in November 2023 and five percent more than in December 2022, reports Biznis.ba.
In the total number of overnight stays in December, the participation of domestic tourists was 40.8 percent, while the participation of foreign tourists was 59.2 percent.
The number of overnight stays by domestic tourists in December increased by 12.5 percent compared to November 2023 and increased by 3.6 percent compared to December 2022.
The number of overnight stays by foreign tourists in December was lower by 2.9 percent compared to November 2023 and higher by six percent compared to December 2022.
In the structure of overnight stays by foreign tourists in December 2023, the most overnight stays were achieved by tourists from: Croatia (27 percent), Serbia (13.8 percent), Slovenia (8.9 percent), Turkey (7.0 percent), Austria (4. 4 percent), Germany (3.9 percent), Montenegro and the United Arab Emirates with each (3.7 percent), which is a total of 72.4 percent. Tourists from other countries accounted for 27.6 percent of overnight stays.
In terms of length of stay of foreign tourists in BiH, the following are in first place: New Zealanders with 5.2 nights, Brazilians with 4.6 nights, Qataris with 4.3 nights, Egyptians with 3.8 nights, Greeks with 3.7 nights and tourists from United Arab Emirates and Cyprus with an average of 3.5 nights each.
In December 2023, 18,527 rooms, apartments and camping sites were available to tourists in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is 0.8 percent less than in December 2022, and 40,669 available beds, which is 0.2 percent more in compared to the same month in 2022.
In December 2023, within the scope of activities – Hotels and similar accommodation, a total of 17,247 rooms and apartments were available to tourists, which is 0.6 percent more compared to December 2022, and 36,482 beds, which is 1.7 percent more compared to the same month of the previous year.
The net occupancy rate of rooms in December 2023 was 26.7 percent, and of permanent beds 18 percent, while in December 2022, the occupancy rate of rooms was 24.9 percent, and of permanent beds 17.4 percent.
According to the type of accommodation facility, the largest number of overnight stays was realized within the Hotels and similar accommodation sector with a participation of 94.7 percent.
