HJPC BIH IS COMMITTED TO IMPLEMENTATION OF ALL MEASURES AIMED AT PREVENTION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN, PROTECTION OF VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE AND PUNISHMENT OF PERPETRATORS OF VIOLENCE





SARAJEVO, NOVEMBER 29 (ONASA) – I remind the public and the judicial community that the Council will continue to support the fight against all forms of gender-based violence, as well as work to improve the position of women victims of violence in contact with the judiciary, with the aim of ensuring a life without violence and discrimination. said the president of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HJSC BiH/Council), Halil Lagumdžija, during his address at the regular session of the Council.
Every year, the HJPC BiH supports the realization of the “16 days of activism against gender-based violence” campaign, as well as the fight against all forms of gender-based violence that occurs every day.
President Lagumdžija also emphasized that the Council, as a regulatory judicial body, invests additional efforts in improving the position of women both in the judiciary and in other spheres by ensuring respect for women’s rights, and that the special focus of the Council is on improving the position of women victims of violence in contact with the judiciary and providing support to the efforts of other institutions and civil society organizations in ensuring a life without violence and discrimination.
The HJPC of BiH advocates for the implementation of legislative and other measures aimed at ensuring the legal, institutional and organizational framework for the prevention of violence against women, the general protection of victims of violence and the punishment of perpetrators of violence.
As a contribution to the implementation of the global campaign, the HJPC of Bosnia and Herzegovina will also this year organize basic training for counselors for the prevention of sexual and gender-based harassment in judicial institutions in BiH, with the aim of ensuring equal working conditions in judicial institutions, regardless of sex/gender. and the promotion of a professional, healthy and dignified working environment, by preventing the occurrence of sexual and gender-based harassment.
The HJPC of Bosnia and Herzegovina mostly provides its support in the fight against gender-based violence through the activities of the project “Improving the efficiency of courts and the responsibility of judges and prosecutors in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, which is implemented with the support of the Government of Sweden. The activities of the project are aimed at improving gender equality in the judiciary and providing support in realizing the rights of vulnerable groups, including women victims of violence, in contact with the judiciary.
The “16 days of activism against gender-based violence” campaign, which is celebrated in more than 100 countries around the world, began on November 25 – the “International Day of Combating Violence Against Women” and ends on December 10 – the “International Human Rights Day”, which highlights that violence against women is a violation of fundamental human rights.
