MOSTAR, NOVEMBER 18 (ONASA) – Members of the Initiative “Because it concerns us” and residents of the northern suburbs of Mostar started a new blockade of the Uborak landfill this morning from 07:00.
According to the Initiative, the reason for the blockade is that the situation at the landfill is worse than ever.
“Our demands have been the same since the first day: closing the landfill, moving it to another location, protecting the environment and groundwater from pollution,” said the former president and now a member of the Initiative “Because it concerns us” Omer Hujdur, adding that the city authorities continue to ignore the problem .
“They don’t offer a solution! There is no indication of where the new landfill and its facilities will be. We will not wait for the long-term solutions that they impose, because it is an attempt to throw fog in the eyes of residents and people gathered around the initiative,” he said.
The last time they decided to block the landfill was in December 2019.
Yesterday, the mayor of Mostar, Mario Kordić, and the president of the Mostar City Council, Salem Marić, spoke in a joint statement and said that the city administration has done everything in their power to solve this problem, that it is the Initiative that is obstructing the process and that it will not allow Mostar to be brought into an ecologically bad situation.
The President of the City Council, Salem Marić, expressed his regret that an agreement could not be reached with the Initiative and called it a political organization.
Mayor Mario Kordić said that the Initiative used the possibility of legally obstructing the process and thus extended the time to solve this problem.
Commenting on statements that the blockade is a project of the Narod i Pravda party, Hujdur points out that their statements do not fit.
“The initiative exists long before the establishment of People and Justice in these areas. No political organization has ever had or will have any influence on the association. The goal of the association is to protect citizens from politicians like these two, whose ambitions are political and above the interests of citizens Hujdur added.
