AMBASSADOR OF DENMARK TO BIH K. GEELAN VISITED ONASA AGENCY
SARAJEVO, March 5 (ONASA) – General Director of Independent News Agency ONASA Elvira Begovic received Ambassador of Denmark to BiH, Kirsten Rosenvold Geelan in Agency’s seat in Sarajevo, whom she informed over the work of the Agency.
General director stressed that mission of the Agency is continuous contribution in development of true, independent and professional informing in advanced, Europe- oriented, multiethnic and multicultural BiH, by aiming on expanding its network outside of BiH as well.
Ambassador K. Geelan in short statement for the ONASA said that media have the crucial role in society of any western democratic country.
“Media are part of the European countries’ history and played an important role for survival of democracy. Also media in BiH, which strived to survive the war and get out from difficulties, have an important role. When following the media in BiH one cannot but to note the lack of focus on getting behind the head lines behind the negative political rhetorics and also in that respect behind the positive stories, when it comes to the campaigns for the forthcoming elections. One can fear that along the way, the stories, positive too, get ‘lost in translation’ and I believe that independent media should pay more attention to that issue”, Ambassador Geelan said.
