– The excavator left. The construction of a mini hydroelectric power plant in Croatia has been stopped. It is a victory won primarily by citizens and activists who, with great support from the media, alerted the public and contributed to the positive outcome of stopping construction at the very source of the Una. I congratulate the Croatian authorities who made a good decision in accordance with international conventions, which we on the Bosnia and Herzegovina side requested immediately after learning about the start of construction, but we expect that some earlier decisions will be reconsidered and that Una will ultimately be permanently protected. This conference is a good opportunity and it is a good moment for us to do everything in order to protect Una from ourselves in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and we all have to be active and involved in this – said Minister Pozder.
During the conference, it was pointed out that the concreting of the Una and illegal construction are inadmissible, because it threatens the development and tourist potential that exist along the entire course of this river. They also discussed environmental protection, cooperation and organization of joint activities, and tourism as the fastest growing branch of the economy and a real opportunity for the development of this region.
The round table was also attended by members of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Jasmin Emrić and Albin Muslić, federal representative Zekerijah Alagić, Prime Minister of USK Nijaz Hušić, Minister of Construction, Spatial Planning and Environmental Protection of USK Almir Imširović, acting. director of NP Una Alen Zulić, representative in the Parliament of the Republic of Croatia Ivan Matić, professor from the University of Zadar Anamarija Frankić, as well as activists from Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Ministry stated that during her visit to Bihać, Minister Pozder met with Mayor Elvedin Sedić, and on that occasion, the importance of coordinating activities and the joint action of all levels of government was emphasized. Minister Pozder and Mayor Sedić pointed out that the challenges have existed for decades, but also that future generations of the UN must be protected in a more efficient way from improvements in legislation, primarily in prevention and stricter sanctions for illegal construction, up to education on the issue of the environment and better capacitation of inspections on the field.
– Illegal construction on the banks of the Una, which passes almost without any sanctions, is not acceptable. I have just sent a letter to the Federal Administration for Inspection Affairs and the local inspection services, requesting that they act on the allegations that a large number of buildings were built by natural persons in the area of strict and directed protection and the area of directed development, mostly of weekend character, without appropriate spatial planning documentation. With regard to the competences, I asked for inspection supervision and action in accordance with the law and to be informed about it within 30 days – Minister Pozder said, according to the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism.
