SARAJEVO, MAY 15 (ONASA) – The Chairman of the City Council of the City of Sarajevo, Jasmin Ademović, and the Mayor, Benjamina Karić, held a meeting on the topic of support for the project to establish a scientific and research infrastructure “Tech4Green” in Vidikovac.
The meeting was attended by Elvedin Okerić, Chairman of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly, Stefano Ellero, Head of Cooperation of the EU Delegation in BiH, Lejla Guberta Pokvić, Director of the Verlab Institute and Ensar Mulaosmanović, Director of the Public Institution “Center for Advanced Technologies in Sarajevo”.
The aim of the meeting was to bring together relevant entities that can contribute to the development of the idea of establishing a scientific research center in Trebević, Vidikovac.
Chairman Ademović informed the attendees that the idea for the establishment of a scientific and research center arose from the communication between the City of Sarajevo and the “Verlab Scientific Research Institute for Biomedical Engineering, Medical Devices and Artificial Intelligence”.
The Verlab research institute is a platform that enables the cooperation of interested entities in creating conditions for the rapid transformation of ideas into products, processes and services, while respecting the specifics and developing answers to key challenges in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.
He pointed out that one of the measures within the Sarajevo Smart City priority towards achieving the strategic goal of the City of Sarajevo – “City of the future and treasure of the past”, determined by the current Development Strategy of the City of Sarajevo and the development of scientific and research activities and activities and, in this connection, cooperation with other entities, highlighting the University of Sarajevo.
Ademović informed those present that the main goal of establishing a scientific research center is to collect and process data necessary for the establishment and realization of various goals in all spheres of interest for the community, but also those of interest for other entities, primarily in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina and region, and for everyone who expresses an interest in using the services of such a center.
Those present agreed that the realization of this project would ensure the prerequisites for the creation of a modern scientific-research and technical infrastructure that will include a super computer and other technological tools, which will give the educational, scientific and business community in BiH the opportunity for accelerated development, in accordance with the European strategic goals, and BiH’s efforts to ensure sustainable and faster overall development.
Appreciating the importance of this project and the open possibilities of the City of Sarajevo, he invited the participants of the meeting to participate in the realization of this project.
Those present gave their support to this idea and expressed their firm commitment to be adequately involved in the implementation of the “Tech4Green” project, which will benefit the educational, scientific and research sector, public institutions and business companies from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina, and provide all the necessary conditions in order to achieve the goal within a reasonable time.
Representatives of the EU delegation in BiH expressed their readiness to ensure the implementation of this project as part of the “Digital Europe” program, immediately after BiH’s accession to this EU program, which is expected as soon as possible.
The determination of all participants of the meeting is that part of the funds generated by the work of the scientific research center “Tech4Green” will be used for the protection of the nature of the Trebević protected area.
In this regard, the participants of the meeting agree that it is necessary to inform the City Council about this idea and to propose conclusions through which the City Council would ask the Canton of Sarajevo to revise the Management Plan for the Trebević Protected Landscape, so that the original purpose of the building could be changed so that it becomes a building can accommodate a scientific and research institution, given that the former city administration planned a catering facility in Vidikovac.
In the discussion, the possibilities of further development of the project and in cooperation with the Federation of BiH on the topic of artificial intelligence research were considered, and the importance of EU support through appropriate instruments, and above all through the “Digital Europe” program, was particularly emphasized.
