Congratulating this significant historical date, Mayor Karić pointed out that today’s celebration, for the first time, will be led by young people from Sarajevo secondary schools.
“For the umpteenth time, they will show us that they are the best only when we decide to give them a chance. They are our view of the future. We often say that we should give a chance to young people, and tonight we did exactly that. Let’s enjoy Sarajevo’s youth tonight.” , Mayor Karić said.
In her appropriate address, Mayor Karić pointed out that we jealously, meticulously and resolutely guard the independence of our homeland, the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which we restored on March 1, 1992. We watch over it and we will never give up on it.
Independence is not won once and for all. Independence is preserved, maintained and strengthened. On every inch of the earth, in every form. The moment we take it for granted, when we think it is unquestionable, we must know that at that moment our independence is most vulnerable.
“That’s why we work and build, always and in every place, let’s strengthen our energy independence, our economy, our social and health care system, our armed forces and police, our judiciary, expand our diplomacy, improve our education system, build our country stone by stone stone and thus strengthen our independence,” added the mayor.
The chairman of the City Council, Jasmin Ademović, also addressed the audience with a speech on the occasion of March 1 – the Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and reminded them of the historical moments that preceded the independence of our country.
“We must remind ourselves of the referendum question, which contains all the symbolism of our unceasing struggle. We also know the answer to that question. Of course, we are for a sovereign and independent Bosnia and Herzegovina, a state of equal citizens, the people of BiH – Bosniaks, Serbs, Croats and members of other nations who live in it, Ademović pointed out.
He emphasized that the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina are proud of their past, but also want to change the present, that is, the future.
“And in order for such a thing to be possible, we must ask ourselves the question, what will we do in the future? What is our vision and what are we doing to achieve it? Can we finally promise ourselves that on the 50th anniversary of independence we will have a truly sovereign and independent state , of truly equal citizens and peoples, no matter what part of the country they live in, a republic of all its citizens regardless of differences, a full member of NATO and the European Union,” said Ademović.
In the end, he pointed out that such anniversaries are a unique opportunity to observe and plan for the long term, with a unique goal – to build Bosnia and Herzegovina as our ancestors dreamed and as we continue to dream.
