TAGESZEITUNG: DODIK WOULD FAIL BOTH POLITICALLY AND FINANCIALLY WITHOUT ORBAN

SARAJEVO, AUGUST 23 (ONASA) – Viktor Orban is “gathering his battalions”, writes Berlin’s “Tageszeitung” about the meeting of the leaders of Hungary, Turkey, Serbia, and Republika Srpska last weekend in Budapest.
“Prime Minister Orbán’s government carefully chose the date of the meeting of the friends of Hungary: August 20 is a national holiday and commemorates the founder of the country, Stephen I of Hungary, who baptized the country from 1000 to 1038 and thus created the foundations for Hungary’s rise as European powers”, writes Berlin’s Tageszeitung, reports Deutsche Welle.
“On Sunday (August 20, 2023), Orbán invited various heads of government to Budapest. Among others, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and several politicians from Central Asia. At first glance, opposing politicians. Orbán thereby demonstrates his independence”, says the author of the article, journalist Erich Ratfelder.

“In light of that, Viktor Orbán was able to present himself to the world public as a reliable organizer, and also to demonstrate his version of a ‘historic turning point’: Hungary should shine, it should show that it has come out of the shadow of the satellites – formerly of the Eastern Bloc, and today the EU – and to follow its own national political agenda. “Instead of being a part of the EU governed by a ‘leftist’ clique, Hungary should set its own accents for the development of Europe,” writes the German newspaper.
Politicians in Brussels, it is added, consider Viktor Orbán, who rules autocratically, as a representative of corrupt and anti-democratic regimes, and who wants to direct Europe in a right-wing conservative and anti-democratic direction. “And he is already gathering his battalions,” writes the author.
“He found a direct ally in Serbia. Orban and Vučić act as a political couple,” writes the Tageszeitung.
“Also, without Orban’s financial support, Milorad Dodik, the leader of the Bosnian Serbs in Bosnia and Herzegovina, would fail not only politically, but also financially. The common ‘Christian’ anti-Muslim position is directed among the Hungarians, as well as among the Serbs, not towards the Salafists, but especially towards the indigenous Balkan Muslims. They also share their aversion to cultural and sexual freedom in liberal democracies, and they even have the clergy from Warsaw behind them,” writes the author of the Berlin newspaper.
As reported by DW, however, when it comes to Russia, Warsaw is against Orban and Vučić’s position.
“Despite their sympathy for Christianity, the Poles have nothing to gain from the current Hungarian policy towards Russia.”
“Relations with Turkey do not correspond to that either,” states the Tageszeitung.
“It could be difficult for Erdogan to completely betray and abandon the Balkan Muslims. He has already stated several times in Sarajevo that he will send the army if they are threatened. But he shares Orbán’s position when it comes to liberal democracies and participates in joint economic projects.”
In the end, the author concludes: “Orbán wants to be a decisive force in the Balkans and can rely on the naivety of Brussels and the liberal democrats.” Hungary should now take over the command of the European Union troops in Bosnia and Herzegovina and people in Sarajevo are asking themselves: “Who should protect us from the attacks of nationalist Serbs”.
