KS: WARNING TO LEGAL AND INDIVIDUAL PERSONS TO TAKE PREVENTIVE PROTECTION AND RESCUE MEASURES AGAINST FLASH FLOODS




SARAJEVO, MAY 26 (ONASA) – The Cantonal Administration of Civil Protection issued a warning to legal and natural persons to take preventive measures for protection and rescue from torrential floods.
Given that, according to the weather forecasts of the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute, rain is expected in the Sarajevo Canton today and in the coming period, and that the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute has issued an Orange warning for heavy local showers for today from 8:00 to 21:00 and that 15 to 30 liters of rain can fall locally in one hour, which can cause flash floods and floods in urban areas, the Cantonal Administration of Civil Protection warns all legal and natural persons that, as a preventive measure, in order to protect the health and life of people, as well as material goods, immediately in in accordance with their competences, as well as their obligations prescribed by the Law on the Protection and Rescue of People and Material Assets from Natural and Other Disasters, undertake the necessary preventive measures for flood protection (preparation of adequate forces and material and technical means for a quick response to announced possible torrential floods).
In this way, the conditions will be created for more efficient and faster responses of all subjects of the protection and rescue system in a comprehensive response to potential challenges and threats from floods, and thus large material damages, as well as possible injuries and human casualties, will be avoided.
In particular, they appeal to the municipal civil protection services from the area of Sarajevo Canton, to continuously visit the areas most at risk from floods and to immediately put their organized protection and rescue forces on alert, so that they are ready as first response forces, in accordance with their competences and obligations under the protection and rescue plans react to potentially heavy rainfall in the area of their municipalities.
The Cantonal Administration of Civil Protection reminds all the above entities that they are obliged to respond as soon as they notice or become aware of any danger or phenomenon that may lead to the occurrence of a natural or other disaster, to submit all information about it to the Cantonal Civil Protection Operational Center at tel. number 121, which works continuously 24 hours a day.
