EU SPOKESMAN PETER STANO: MAINTAINING CLOSE TIES WITH RUSSIA IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH EUROPEAN WAY

BRUSSELS, MAY 24 (ONASA-FoNet) – On the occasion of Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik’s visit to Moscow and meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, European Union spokesman Peter Stano said that maintaining close ties with Russia is incompatible with the European path.
“The European Union was crystal clear with our partners: relations with Russia cannot be normal with the Putin regime, in the shadow of Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine,” Stano said in a written response to Radio Free Europe.
Let’s not forget that Putin is the one who orders and oversees the massive violation of the United Nations Charter and human rights in Ukraine, where Russia commits atrocities by indiscriminately targeting civilians and civil infrastructure, looting Ukrainian property and territories or kidnapping children, added Stano, who pointed out that the EU wants to count on all candidate countries as reliable European partners when it comes to common principles, values, security and prosperity.
Since the beginning of the Russian aggression against Ukraine, the leaders of Western countries have cut all ties with Putin.
